John McCain's Bad Idea

13 April 2008

From John McCain's website:

Make It Harder To Raise Taxes: John McCain believes it should require a 3/5 majority vote in Congress to raise taxes.
In addition to promising to increase our national debt, John McCain's plan will make it pretty much structurally impossible to ever pay it off. By not dealing with this $9 trillion debt now, the next generation is just going to have to pay it off in taxes plus interest. The last thing we need right now is to entrench John McCain's economic philosophy in our Congressional rules.

UPDATE: I agree with McCain that we have to "cut pork-barrel spending," but that alone won't even come close to solving our problems. One of the things that annoys me the most about John McCain is that he always falls back on this little bit of misdirection to make his borrow-and-spend plans look responsible.
